Singer Sia is known for the electronic style of her music. She is vastly popular among the younger generation and is used to the occasional traditionalist’s critique. However, after the “Elastic Heart” singer released her newest music video, she encountered a new wave of criticism.

In the music video for “Elastic Heart”, Sia’s sweet, melancholy lyrics thrummed in the background as two actors expressed themselves in an intimate dance. The video films Shia LaBeouf and Maddie Ziegler in a large, zoo-like cage. Shia LaBeouf can be recognized in his many movies, such as “Holes.”

However, the real outrage here comes from fans of the “Dance Moms” reality television celebrity, Maddie Ziegler, who is only 12 years old.

“This video did make me uncomfortable…” wrote YouTube commenter Esther Jonson. “Maybe it’s because Maddie is like 12 and shia is almost 30 and I watch dance moms too so I really see her for her age.”

The barrage of furious commenters expressed their revulsion that the two main dancers were so far apart in age, even though no real intimacy was expressed in the video. Despite accusations, the video is actually an interpretative dance performance referring to Sia’s old self warring with her new, more successful self.

The singer apologized for the misunderstanding in a tweet: “"I apologize to those who feel triggered by #ElasticHeart My intention was to create some emotional content, not to upset anybody."

On YouTube, the “Elastic Heart” music video has received over 4.3 million views only 24 hours after it was posted.
